Investigation of a criminal case on a scam with tickets to the theater is completed

The Investigative Committee has completed the investigation of a criminal case against the organizers of the sale of theater tickets to leading Russian theaters using duplicate websites, Kommersant reports.

The sites sold tickets to the Mariinsky, Bolshoi, Maly theaters, RAMT and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. The case was initiated in February 2020 following a statement by the Mariinsky Theater that tickets were sold from a website that was indistinguishable from the real one. Entrepreneurs Andrey Khartanyuk and Aleksey Kurinov have been legally selling tickets for performances, sports matches, festivals and other entertainment events since 2013, but in 2017 Khartanyuk decided to dramatically increase the company's income and instructed his companion to create duplicates of official websites.

The total network turnover reached 1 billion rubles. Dozens of companies and entrepreneurs were involved in its activities, designers, programmers, couriers worked in the company. First, the case was opened under Part 4 of Art. 180 of the Criminal Code (illegal use of means of individualization of goods, works or services), but after that it was supplemented by article 4 p. 159 (large scale fraud).
