Russia (bbabo.net), - At the traveling photo exhibition "Soldiers of the Pandemic", organized together with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, doctors from the Kuzbass Disaster Medicine Center told medical students about their work.
The exhibition, which previously visited Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk and Mezhdurechensk, is now on display in the photo gallery of the V. Fedorov State Scientific Library of Kuzbass. It allows fellow countrymen to peer into the faces of ordinary doctors, paramedics and drivers with all their emotions, experiences, joys and pain, which are hidden by protective suits and goggles.
“For almost two years now, we have been working in special conditions, evacuating severe patients with a new coronavirus infection from the most remote corners of the region to specialized medical centers,” Ksenia Radivilko, director of the Center for Disaster Medicine, addressed the students of Kemerovo State Medical University. - During this time we have become stronger. Through trials and losses, we are still together.
According to Anton Duzhik, the author of the photo portraits, the driver of the ambulance, each patient is an unread book. What will happen to him in the next hour or two is not always clear. But you need to do everything possible, and sometimes impossible, to save a person's life.
- Is it scary to work with covid? Every time you are afraid of one thing: not to be in time, not to take the patient. And every time, constantly monitoring the pressure in the tank, saturation and other indicators, you think: "If only there was enough air!" We carry out manipulations on the go, and when this is not possible, the driver stops the car, and we continue to resuscitate, - doctor Pavel Rogozhkin shared his experience with future colleagues.
Last year, the Mi-8 helicopter appeared at the disposal of the Disaster Medicine Center for the first time. And recently, a new Ansat, a light-class vehicle that is ideal for short distances, has arrived.
The main indication for air transport is not the diagnosis, but the severity of the patient's condition. Of the 86 delivered to hospitals on board the ambulance, only forty percent are infected with covid. All the rest are citizens seriously injured in an accident, who have had a heart attack or stroke, pregnant women with pathology, and seriously ill children.
Today, medical students, starting from the fourth year, occupy the positions of paramedical staff in healthcare institutions, having received certificates. With an acute shortage of personnel against the backdrop of a pandemic, one cannot do without their help. According to the regional government, more than a thousand students and residents are employed in the region's hospitals.
In response to the question of who wants to link their fate with the ambulance, several hands went up at once.
“I dreamed of becoming a doctor since childhood. First, a surgeon. But, having visited the exhibition, I decided that I would most likely go to work in disaster medicine, - confessed a first-year student of the medical faculty of the KemGMU Shyyrap Khayaa, who came to study in Kuzbass from the Republic of Tyva.
