Russia - Director of the RSL Vadim Duda on the merger with the Book Chamber and the endowment fund

Russia (bbabo.net), - On the eve of the International Mother Language Day, the Director of the Russian State Library, Vadim Duda, spoke at the Rossiya Segodnya MIA about the changes that await libraries across the country and the merger of B with the Book Chamber.

Today, the mission of libraries is not limited to the collection of books and historical documents. Their main goal is to preserve national identity and culture. The main slogan of "Leninka" and other similar institutions is "for good enlightenment."

The Russian State Library is one of the largest libraries in the world. It has 1.6 thousand employees, 24 property complexes, 200 million storage units and 640 thousand registered users. As Vadim Valeryevich stated, today the development strategy of B.

As paper-based information becomes more a thing of the past, B will endeavor to preserve newspaper articles or other documents to ensure that reliable information about our past and present is conveyed.

The second important task is the preservation and modernization of the property complex of the library. In particular, its large-scale reconstruction is planned, during which security, comfort and climate systems will be improved. As well as the design of a national electronic library - the creation of remote digital access to services B, by analogy with the site "Gosuslugi".

It is planned to carry out large-scale international projects, create an endowment fund for the modernization of municipal libraries and the preservation of book monuments.

Another urgent issue is the merger of the Russian State Library with the Russian Book Chamber. There are many difficulties associated with this, but B will thereby gain access to a unique interface for interacting with publishers. We can say that the unification has already begun, at the level of technological processes, whether it is a system for accepting legal deposits in electronic form. Such cooperation has already borne fruit: the National Book Platform project has been launched, where there is information about all book novelties.

B is open to interaction with libraries in other countries. It was stated that it is necessary to strive to create a single global library space, and the first steps towards this could be the unification of funds, at least in electronic form, and support for domestic libraries abroad, ensuring their modernization and fullness of books. They also reminded about the preservation of the languages of small peoples. Vadim Duda noted that this should be a separate concern of the state. And, as he said, in many libraries, local history and the preservation of national history are considered the most important part of the work.

For some time it was believed that the support of regional libraries would lead to their complete standardization, but this did not happen. On the contrary, each institution is unique in its own way, which is also emphasized by their appearance - there are libraries designed in the form of a malachite box or a dairy farm. However, originality is also expressed in content: somewhere you can conduct classes in music or drawing, and somewhere a robot will help you find the right book.

When asked if the paper book will disappear, Duda noted that paper and electronic media can coexist perfectly with each other. Each has its own context of use, so libraries should take advantage of the benefits of both. At the same time, there is more talk about the use of audiobooks, which also provide a lot of opportunities.

Specialists are pleased that the rate of disappearance of libraries has noticeably decreased, and in some places the data on visits is quite high. On the other hand, the demographic problem is becoming more serious: there are not enough young people. Not only as readers, but also as employees. Therefore, libraries are intensively engaged in improving the skills of existing employees and at the same time trying to attract new ones.
