Tuminas left the Vakhtangov Theater

Artistic director of the Vakhtangov State Academic Theater in Moscow, Rimas Tuminas, has left the cultural institution, TASS reports with reference to the Lithuanian national radio El-er-te.

The Lithuanian director said that he had already resigned from the post of artistic director of the Vakhtangov Theatre. It happened in February.

On February 24, the Minister of Culture of Lithuania, Simonas Kairis, demanded from the administration of the Vilnius Maly Theater created by Tuminas that the director, who combined work in Moscow and Vilnius, be fired. “The question of my work at the Vilnius Maly Theater is up to the minister,” the director specified.

Rimas Tuminas is a Soviet, Russian and Lithuanian theater director. Born in Lithuania in 1952. In 1978 he graduated from the directing department of GITIS. During his career he staged more than 20 performances in various theaters. He has been the artistic director of the Vakhtangov Theater since 2007. In 2021, rumors about his hospitalization appeared in the press, which were denied.

Tuminas left the Vakhtangov Theater
