The government approved the indexation of pensions by 8.6%

On the afternoon of January 14, a government commission approved a bill with amendments that index pensions by 8.6% in 2022. This was announced by the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Alexander Zhukov, TASS reports.

“Today, a draft amendment was approved as part of the execution of the instructions of the President of Russia to index pensions in 2022 by 8.6%,” the parliamentarian said.

Zhukov noted that after the increase, the average insurance pension in the country will increase to 18,984 rubles.

As reported by the Ministry of Labor, on average, insurance pensions will increase by 1.4 thousand rubles. Indexation will affect more than 30 million Russians. In 2022, 172.7 billion rubles will be allocated from the budget for these purposes. In the next two years, additional expenses will amount to 178.3 and 188.9 billion rubles. respectively.

Indexing pensions above the official inflation (according to Rosstat, it was 8.4% in 2021) was instructed by President Vladimir Putin on January 12 during a meeting with the Cabinet. “I propose indexing pensions slightly above inflation - now it looks like 8.4% - by 8.6%, with a small gap, because there are no final inflation figures yet,” the head of state noted then.
