The gas distribution company Moldovagaz decided to transfer $8.5 million to Gazprom on Thursday to pay off the debt for the advance payment in January. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu during a speech in parliament, TASS reports.
“Yesterday, Moldovagaz transferred $7 million, today it will pay another $8.5 million. In total, more than $38 million will be paid as an advance payment for January,” Spinu said.
According to him, Moldovagaz still has to transfer another $25 million to pay off the debt. In this regard, the Cabinet is doing everything possible so that there is no interruption in the supply of gas to consumers.
On January 19, the Moldovagaz company was unable to find a common language with Gazprom in order to postpone the advance payment, and was unable to obtain a loan to repay the required amount. Also, Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa said that Gazprom promised to completely stop gas supplies to Moldova in case of non-payment.
