The Russian Ambassador saw no reason to delay the certification of Nord Stream 2

There are no objective reasons for delaying the certification of Nord Stream 2 in Germany, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, the Russian project is artificially politicized.

“We don’t see any objective reasons for artificially delaying the certification period, let alone far-fetched political links,” the diplomat explained.

According to Nechaev, the gas pipeline was built in accordance with EU legislation, but the EU has changed the approval rules more than once, including changing the gas directive and artificially introducing political aspects into the project.

The ambassador emphasized that Moscow is counting on the resumption of Nord Stream 2 certification in Germany in the near future, adding that all the necessary documentation is being submitted to the German regulator.

Nord Stream 2 is a two-line gas pipeline. The length of each of them is 1.2 thousand km. They run from the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad region) to the German Greifswald. The total capacity of the gas pipeline will be 55 billion cubic meters. m of gas per year.

Earlier, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, said that Russia would be able to find other buyers for its gas if the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was never launched.
