Russia - Minister: Libya has no opportunity to increase gas exports to Europe

Russia (bbabo.net), - Libya does not have the ability to increase natural gas production and its export to Europe in the event of its shortage in the EU. This RIA Novosti said the Minister of Oil and Gas of Libya Muhammad Aoun.

As the head of the department noted, his country itself needs gas, it is necessary for the operation of power plants and other facilities. In this regard, the export of "blue fuel" to Europe has already been limited.

"I don't think that in the foreseeable future we will be able to increase the volume of gas for export, even if the pressure on producing fields is increased," Aoun said. In his opinion, these volumes will not be enough to resolve the crisis in the European Union, if one arises.

Earlier it became known that Brussels is discussing with various countries the possibility of increasing gas supplies to Europe. "We are building an energy security partnership with the United States, first of all, it concerns an increase in the supply of liquefied natural gas. We are negotiating with other suppliers, for example, with Norway, to increase their supplies to Europe," said Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission. The EU took this step due to fears that in response to the next anti-Russian sanctions, Moscow could reduce or completely stop gas supplies. Other measures under consideration include the development of strategic gas reserves in the EU and the joint purchase of "blue fuel".
