AMD has become much stronger

AMD's acquisition of Xilinx has been fully approved. Yesterday, AMD received the approval of all the regulators involved in the process.

The company expects the deal to be closed as early as February 14 or so, which is a few days from now. Recall that the deal was announced in October 2020, but, since this is a very large merger, it took a year and a half to get all the necessary approvals.

The deal will cost AMD $35 billion, which is a lot even for the entire industry, and for AMD itself, which made $3.6 billion in net income last year (and it was a record year for the company), the deal is incredibly expensive.

Xilinx, we recall, is developing FPGAs, and is the leader in this market.
