EU court again sided with Gazprom

The European Court of Justice refused the Polish PGNiG to cancel the decision of the European Commission in the antimonopoly case against Gazprom, TASS reports citing court materials.

“The Court of General Jurisdiction dismisses the claim filed against the decision of the European Commission on the obligations of Gazprom to resolve competition issues raised by the first [European Commission -] in relation to the national markets for wholesale gas supplies to the countries of Eastern and Central Europe,” the court said.

In parallel, the court issued another ruling - to cancel the decision of the European Commission to reject PGNiG's complaint about Gazprom's monopoly practices for procedural reasons.

Earlier, the expert explained how to circumvent the EU antitrust requirement for Nord Stream 2.

It is quite possible to circumvent this requirement, says Igor Yushkov, Leading Analyst of the National Energy Security Fund, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. "Gazprom" can agree with buyers of gas in Europe to transfer the point of delivery and acceptance.
