Small ruble bills will not be withdrawn from circulation yet

The first vice-president of Opora Rossii, Pavel Sigal, said that small denomination banknotes could be withdrawn from circulation in Russia, but this is unlikely. In an interview with the Prime agency, he clarified that such a scenario is unlikely, at least for now.

According to Segal, the reasons for refusing small banknotes may be the wear and tear of banknotes, their inactive use due to rising prices or a massive transition to a non-cash form of payment.

“The decay of banknotes is taking place. However, this does not lead to the “abolition” of small bills as such - they will only be replaced with freshly printed ones, ”the first vice-president of Opora Rossii believes. He pointed out that the Central Bank of Russia (CB) is coping with the gradual replacement of worn-out banknotes.

Segal also believes that the Central Bank will not abandon the 50 and 100-ruble banknotes, as this will increase the level of anxiety of Russians who are sensitive to any financial changes.

According to the forecast of the specialist, “with the gradual spread of non-cash payments, the need for small banknotes will decrease over time, then the regulator will be able to painlessly and gradually reduce their share within the cash turnover.”

Previously, the number of Russians who completely abandoned cash was named.

Also, the chairman of the board of Sberbank German Gref said that the rejection of plastic bank cards occurs naturally.
