The White House appreciated the rapprochement between Russia and China

The United States believes that Beijing will not be able to compensate for Moscow's losses from possible sanctions that the West will impose in the event of Russian aggression against Ukraine. This was stated by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki at a daily briefing.

She noted that the meeting that the leaders of Russia and China, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping had a couple of weeks ago, reflected the approach that these countries have taken some time ago, which is rapprochement.

According to her, China will not be able to compensate for the economic losses that Russia will suffer if sanctions are imposed against it when the situation around Ukraine worsens.

“And we have tools that can be used if we see that some companies, including those based in China, will try to mitigate the impact of sanctions,” Psaki said.

On the eve of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, Russian and Chinese leaders Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping held three-hour talks. They signed a large joint statement on contemporary international relations. The leadership of the two countries has demonstrated unanimity on many topical issues: for example, unwillingness to see the expansion of NATO and the further deployment of American missiles in Europe and Asia.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden acknowledged that American citizens will have to pay for the sanctions that the United States may impose on Russia for a possible attack on Ukraine.
