Novak said that the launch of Nord Stream 2 will help Europe in the gas situation

The early launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will help Europe stabilize the situation on the gas market, as well as reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. This was written by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak in his column for the Energy Policy magazine.

Using 55 billion cubic meters of gas from SP2 to generate electricity instead of coal will allow the European Union to reduce total CO2 emissions by 14%, he said. This corresponds to the annual emissions of about 30 million average cars, Novak said.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that Western countries would not allow the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to start operating in the event of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a press conference following a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, stressed that Nord Stream 2 is a purely commercial project without political overtones.
