The ex-minister of labor compared the Russian pension system with the Augean stables

The existing pension system in Russia has accumulated so many problems that it is impossible to fix them with one solution. This was stated in an interview by State Duma deputy and former Minister of Labor and Social Development Oksana Dmitrieva.

“The pension system is not a Gordian knot that can be cut, but an Augean stable that needs to be cleaned. When the pension system is pulled back and forth, it always results in a loss of seniority, earnings, and the emergence of new injustices. We need to consistently clean up the pension system and eliminate numerous mistakes,” Dmitrieva said.

According to her, if the pension reforms carried out over the past 20 years are “nullified”, this will nullify the working biography of 42 million today's pensioners and tens of millions of working citizens now.

Correction of the pension system, according to Dmitrieva, should begin with the indexation of pensions for working pensioners.

“Working pensioners are the most disadvantaged category of citizens. This has become especially evident during the coronavirus pandemic. These people had to go to work. At the same time, the pension of working pensioners lags behind the pension of non-working people every year,” the deputy explained.

She believes that this will allow 7 million working pensioners to return to the legal field, who since 2015 either stopped working or went into the shadows.
