Moldova - Spinu: Electricity tariff over 3 lei is an optimistic scenario

Moldova (bbabo.net), - Andrei Spinu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, does not deny the increase in electricity tariffs. "New electricity tariffs should be approved in the near future due to the fact that the contract signed with Kuchurganskaya GRES expires at the end of March. Tariffs will certainly be revised," Spinu said in the Secretele Puterii program on Jurnal TV, replicamedia reports. md

According to Spinu, if the new contract provides for a higher price, the tariff for final consumers in Moldova may exceed 3 lei per kWh.

"A tariff over 3 lei is an optimistic scenario. The region is about 4-5 times more than we have now. And in Ukraine the situation is no better," Spinu said.

“The electricity supply contracts that are currently being negotiated expire at the end of March. Some auctions have already begun, we have also promoted a law requiring those who organize auctions to purchase from at least two sources so that we have diversification. But if we look at the price of neighbors for electricity, it is much higher than what we currently have in contracts with Kuchurganskaya GRES. In this sense, I have been discussing with all operators in this market for a long time, let's see if we can find a solution that will not allow a galloping increase, I I mean doubling, tripling, or even more, electricity tariffs. I cannot confirm that the discussions are completed, I also spoke with companies in this field and with ANRE," Andrei Spinu said.

Recall that the main electricity supplier Kuchurgan Thermal Power Plant (MHPP), located in the Transnistrian region and controlled by the Russian state group of companies RAO UES, may increase the price of electricity in the spring due to rising natural gas tariffs.
