Germany canceled Nord Stream 2 contract

Joachim Wenning, chief executive officer of the German reinsurance company Munich Re, announced the cancellation of the contract for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Bloomberg reports.

The reasons for this decision are still unknown. According to Wenning, the client will not accept cancellation of the agreement.

According to RBC, this decision was made public in February last year. At that time, the termination of insurance for the gas pipeline project was associated with the threat of sanctions restrictions.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz instructed the Ministry of Economy to stop the certification of Nord Stream 2. We are talking about the revocation of the document on the basis of which the Federal Network Agency carried out the certification of the gas pipeline operator.

This decision was announced after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR. According to Scholz, the gas pipeline cannot yet be certified due to the "recent actions" of the Russian Federation.

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, in turn, did not rule out that the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers does not mean that the project will never be launched.
