Gazprom announced almost depleted gas reserves in Europe, selected last summer

Gazprom reported that Europe has fully withdrawn the volumes of gas pumped last summer from its underground storage facilities (UGS).

“As of February 26, the volume of active gas in European underground storage facilities is 21.5% (by 7.9 billion cubic meters) less than last year's level. Already selected 47 billion cubic meters. m. - 100% of the gas injected in the summer, that is, the volume of reserves made last year, ”the company noted with reference to Gas Infrastructure Europe data.

In Europe, 29.5% of the gas remains in UGSFs, Gazprom said. In Germany, 29.4% remained, and in France - 22.9%.

“In order to replenish gas reserves in European storage facilities by next winter, it will be necessary to pump in such significant volumes of gas that have never been pumped in one summer season,” the Gazprom press service added, recalling that there are daily limits on fuel injection volumes due to technological features of existing storages.

Gazprom specialists emphasized that gas withdrawal usually takes place before the end of March - mid-April, and in the current conditions it will start from earlier reserves (made in 2020 and before).

“The occupancy of Ukrainian UGS facilities currently continues to be at minimum levels. As of February 26, it dropped to 10.3 billion cubic meters. m. This is 44% (8.1 billion cubic meters) lower than last year, and 5 billion cubic meters. m less than at the start date of injection in April 2021,” Gazprom said.

Earlier, Poland decided to sharply increase the injection of gas into its underground storage facilities, replenishing them by the maximum volume since the beginning of September 2021 - by 14.3 million cubic meters.
