Russia - Roskomnadzor: Google and Facebook ignored numerous requirements of the regulator

Russia (bbabo.net), - The court for the first time imposed turnover fines on foreign IT giants for not deleting prohibited information. On Friday, December 24, the Magistrate's Court of the Tagansky District of Moscow considered two cases against foreign IT companies Google LLC and Facebook Inc (now Meta Platforms) and found them guilty for repeated violation of the procedure for restricting access to illegal content.

According to Roskomnadzor, on October 4 and 27, administrative protocols were drawn up against Facebook Inc and Google LLC under Part 5 of Art. 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation for failure to delete materials recognized by the court and authorized state authorities as prohibited from distribution on the territory of the Russian Federation.

It is noted that the companies ignored the numerous requirements of Roskomnadzor in relation to the following categories of materials: inciting religious discord, offending the feelings of believers and / or aimed at splitting the multinational and multi-confessional state; with unreliable socially significant information; promoting an indifferent attitude towards the life and health of minors ("catching", "roofing", deliberate asphyxiation); propagandizing the views and ideology of extremist and terrorist organizations, as well as containing signs of the heroization of terrorists; with instructions for making explosives.

In total, at the moment, more than two thousand materials on Facebook and Instagram have not been deleted. Google has more than 2.6 thousand unremoved materials.

In total, in 2021, Roskomnadzor drew up 23 protocols against Facebook, the amount of fines set by the court was 83 million rubles. 21 protocols were drawn up against Google in 2021, the amount of fines is 51.5 million rubles.
