Russia - In the Amur region, it was decided to settle storks in a new territory

Russia (bbabo.net), - In the Amur Region, they are preparing for the arrival of the Far Eastern storks, which should return from wintering in March. Specialists of the regional directorate for the protection of wildlife and specially protected natural areas are planning to build ten nesting supports. Two of them will appear for the first time in the Blagoveshchensky reserve, eight more - in Berezovsky.

- We will install the first supports in the floodplain part of the Blagoveshchensky reserve. It is interesting for us to see if these territories are suitable for birds, "said Dmitry Khudoleev, deputy head of the directorate's department.

The nest support is a tripod-shaped structure eight meters high and weighing about half a ton. To create it, larch is used, which is not very susceptible to decay. The first supports of the Berezovsky reserve, made from it back in 2009, are still in service and are populated by birds.

When the snow melts in the reserves, specialists will treat the supports with fire-retardant impregnation and remove all dry vegetation within a radius of 15 meters. So they will protect the nests of the Red Book birds from fires. The number of nesting poles installed in the Amur region, taking into account the new ones, will reach 60.

In recent years, the number of Far Eastern storks in the Amur Region has been steadily growing. This is largely due to floods and a good food base.
