Tokayev: The CSTO mission is completed, the withdrawal of peacekeepers will begin in 2 days

The withdrawal of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent from Kazakhstan will begin in two days and will take no more than ten days, Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said.

"The main mission of the CSTO peacekeeping forces has been successfully completed, in two days a phased withdrawal of the united CSTO peacekeeping contingent will begin," Tokayev said, adding that the withdrawal process of the contingent will take no more than ten days (quoted by RIA Novosti).

The head of Kazakhstan said that the acute phase of the counter-terrorist operation in the country has passed, the situation in all regions is stable. He noted that the attempted coup in the country had failed.

Tokayev turned to the CSTO for help in connection with the riots that began in the country on January 2. Thousands of people were injured in the course of them, there are dead. The CSTO peacekeeping contingent was deployed to Kazakhstan to normalize the situation.

The day before, at an extraordinary summit, the leaders of the CSTO countries discussed the situation in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is faced with international terrorism, the situation that has arisen has become a challenge to the security, integrity and sovereignty of the country, President Vladimir Putin said at the summit. He believes that the peacekeepers in Kazakhstan managed to put up a barrier to terrorists and looters.
