Russia and the CIS (bbabo.net) - During the meeting of the RF-NATO Council, the Russian side informed its Western colleagues of its readiness to use countermeasures in the event of a threat to its national security. This was announced to journalists by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko, RIA Novosti reports.

The diplomat noted that Moscow has a wide range of military-technical measures at its disposal, which it has the right to use in the event of a real threat to security, which is already being felt.

According to him, the Russian territory is considered by foreign players as an object targeted for strike weapons.

Grushko added that the Russian Federation and NATO are separated by very serious problems, and Moscow does not yet see the possibility of overcoming them.

"If we talk about de-escalation, then, of course, we have already reached the edge ...", - said the Deputy Foreign Minister.

On January 9-10, Russian-American consultations were held in Geneva, where Moscow's proposals on security guarantees were discussed. A couple of days later, a meeting of the RF-NATO Council was held in Brussels. Next in line are consultations in Vienna at the site of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Moscow demands from the West to legally guarantee the rejection of NATO expansion to the east, Ukraine's entry into the alliance and the creation of military bases in the states of the former USSR.
