Mandatory vaccination in Austria starts on February 8

The introduction of compulsory vaccination in Austria must take place no later than February 8th. It was previously planned that this would happen on February 1st. The enacted law on mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 will then be published in the Federal Legislative Bulletin and thereafter enter into force," the statement reads. website of the Ministry of Health.

Minister of Health Wolfgang Mückstein informed that a transitional period is envisaged until mid-March. And from March 15, police officers will check the vaccination certificate during routine checks. If the document is not found, a fine of 600 euros will be charged.

The ministry has high hopes for "fast track procedures," that is, for people to pay right away. However, the judiciary expects more than one hundred thousand additional court cases, which will cost no less than 150 million euros.

From February 1, in Austria, the validity of the coronavirus vaccine will be reduced from nine to six months after the second injection. In this regard, over 235,000 people lose their vaccination record in their passports. However, the government refuses to provide a transitional period with an extended vaccination period.
