“Excess salt in the diet is fluid retention in the body, edema, increased blood pressure, damage to the vascular wall from the inside (as a result, it becomes very vulnerable to cholesterol deposition, the formation of cholesterol plaques) and other unpleasant consequences,” the expert explained. - The daily norm of salt is a maximum of 5-6 grams, about a teaspoon. However, it should be remembered that this norm includes hidden salt. It is found almost everywhere: in pastries, meat, vegetables, cheese, semi-finished products, fast food, processed products - sausages, sauces, mayonnaise. Hidden salt accounts for up to 80 percent of the daily volume. So, having a sandwich with sausage and cheese, you will get almost a daily allowance of salt.

By reducing salt intake, you can reduce blood pressure and body weight, get rid of edema. The specialist gave a number of recommendations on how to reduce the salt content in the diet.

- When cooking food, salt it at the end of cooking. Or do not salt at all, adding salt to portioned dishes, - Galina Dzhorova advised. - Reduce consumption of sausages: replace them with meat products baked in the oven. Refuse industrial sauces and mayonnaises - use your own dressings, using olive oil, lemon juice, spices. Forget about bouillon cubes - they have a lot of salt, all kinds of additives, flavor enhancers. Think about the alternative to salt - garlic, lime, herbs. And if you use salt, give preference to iodized salt.
