US President Joe Biden held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with French leader Emmanuel Macron and discussed with him the situation around Ukraine, as well as diplomatic engagement with Russia and potential sanctions against Moscow. This was reported on the website of the White House.
"President Joe Biden spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron today about Russia's ongoing military buildup on the borders with Ukraine," the statement said.
The publication notes that the leaders discussed "ongoing coordination both on diplomatic engagement and on preparations to create a quick and severe economic cost to Russia in the event that it makes a further invasion of Ukraine."
Earlier, Macron said before an informal meeting of EU Interior Ministers in the commune of Tourcoing that the country's priority is to de-escalate the situation in Ukraine.
Macron stressed that he was concerned about the situation in Ukraine and considered it important to find a political solution to overcome this crisis.
