NATO may deploy additional battlegroups in the southeast of the alliance

NATO is considering deploying additional battlegroups in the southeastern part of the bloc. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the statement.

In a statement, Stoltenberg also welcomed the US decision to send additional forces to Germany, Romania and Poland.

"I applaud the US decision to send additional forces to Germany, Poland and Romania, a move that will further strengthen NATO's collective deterrence and defense force," he added.

Earlier, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the United States would soon send additional military forces to Romania, Poland and Germany. According to him, forces are sent to the region "not forever" and the decision is "a reaction to the current situation."

In recent months, statements have been made in the West and Ukraine in particular about Russia's allegedly impending "invasion" of Ukraine. In turn, the Kremlin more than once directly denied any plans to attack Ukraine, on the contrary, pointing to the possible preparation of a military operation in the Donbass by Kiev.
