Russia - A new X-ray operating room has been launched in the oncological dispensary of Udmurtia

Russia (bbabo.net), - The Republican Clinical Oncological Dispensary (RKOD) of Udmurtia has launched an X-ray operating room. The first and so far the only one for the oncology service in the region, it is equipped with equipment that allows doctors to see everything that was previously hidden from view.

A standard white coat for the doctors working in this operating room is not enough. Special protective aprons are needed, as X-ray equipment is installed here. The C-arm device with the function of angiography (from the Greek angeion "vessel" + graph "to write, depict." - Ed.) appeared in the RKOD only a month ago. But doctors have already appreciated the acquisition - it allows you to see even the smallest vessels of the human body, and now the tumor will definitely not hide. Equipment worth more than 20 million rubles "came" to the hospital under the national project "Health".

-Now we will be able to save patients with malignant neoplasms of the liver, pancreas and bile ducts. Among oncologists, this localization of tumors is considered one of the most difficult, - explains Rinat Tarasov, deputy chief physician of the RKOD.

To install the device, it was necessary to carry out a major overhaul - to make doors and walls X-ray protective. And send the clinic staff for training. Surgeon Alexander Alipa trained in federal centers, and now works in his hometown on new equipment. He talks about the advantages of the technique during the preparation for the operation - so as not to waste precious time (for oncologists, it is one of the most important resources). An emergency patient is on the operating table. The woman was admitted to the hospital with a high fever, purulent inflammation of the pancreas affected by the tumor, and the so-called obstructive jaundice.

- What is obstructive jaundice? This is a blockage of the bile ducts. We need to clean them urgently,” the surgeon explains. - This is delicate work - the thickness of the ducts is only a few millimeters.

During the operation, doctors inject a special contrast agent into the ducts, then the image is projected onto the monitor screen. Now oncologists see everything.

- Without this equipment, such an operation cannot be performed, because the bile ducts are not visible to the naked eye. There are ultrasound imaging methods, computed tomography, but they do not allow for the volume of interventions that is necessary in this situation, - Alexander Alipa continues after the procedure.

Moreover, the C-arm allows, with a small dose of radiation for the doctor and the patient, to carry out all the necessary procedures without incisions on the body - only a small puncture is needed. So, then you can almost immediately begin special antitumor therapy. And again we are talking about time - the sooner you start treatment, the more chances for recovery!

Now, as a rule, such emergency patients end up in the duty departments of surgical hospitals, and there they can only dream of such equipment, doctors explain. The oncology center is ready to take on this burden, the clinic says. And they are counting on the further renewal of the medical technology park, which is necessary to save lives.

By the way

There is such a thing as "heavy" medical equipment - it is really heavy, impressive in weight, dimensions, in terms of the volume of tasks performed, in terms of the qualifications of the personnel who work with it. "The X-ray operating room is just like that. There will be a new one," says Stepan Ronzin, chief physician of the RKOD. "At least eleven units of modern, including "heavy" equipment, should appear this year." Doctors are already waiting for the X-ray diagnostic complex, digital mammography and multislice computed tomography.
