Russia and Belarus are preparing for joint exercises

Russia and Belarus are starting to test the reaction forces of the Union State. At the first stage, which will last until February 9, redeployment and the creation of groupings of troops will take place. At the second stage - from February 10 to February 20 - the joint exercise "Allied Resolve-2022" will be held.

It is planned that almost all the Armed Forces of Belarus, as well as parts of the Eastern Military District, the Aerospace Forces and the Russian Airborne Forces will be involved in the exercises. On January 21, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the beginning of the transfer to maneuvers in Belarus by rail of two divisions of long-range air defense systems S-400 Triumph.

The troops will take up combat training duty as part of a unified regional air defense system of Russia and Belarus. A week ago, on January 27, Russia completed the transfer of Su-35 fighter jets from the Far East to Belarus. Earlier, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Alexander Fomin said that Russia was sending 12 Su-35 fighters to Belarus for maneuvers. And on January 29, an official message came about the arrival in Belarus of a division of short-range air defense systems "Pantsir-S".

It is expected that five military training grounds (Domanovsky, Gozhsky, Obuz-Lesnovsky, Brestsky and Osipovichsky), a number of terrain and four airfields (Baranovichi, Luninets) will be involved in the exercise in Belarus, "Lida" and "Machulishchi"). The maneuvers are taking place against the backdrop of a complex crisis in relations between Russia and NATO countries, which are concerned about the movement of Russian troops near the border of Ukraine and threaten Russia with sanctions.

On February 1, the Russian Ministry of Defense informed the foreign attaché about the holding of military exercises of Russia and Belarus "Allied Resolve-2022", although it was not obliged to do so. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu spoke about this during a conference call.

"In the period from February 10 to 20, a joint exercise "Allied Resolve-2022" will be held at five Belarusian training grounds. During the exercise, the tasks of ensuring the military security of the Union State and countering terrorism will be worked out," the minister specified. At the same time, Shoigu pointed out that neither Russia nor Belarus were obliged to inform foreign partners about the parameters of these military exercises, but the Russian defense department did this.

Russia and Belarus were not obliged to inform their foreign partners about the parameters of these military exercises, but they did it voluntarily

The head of the Russian military department stressed: "The number of participants in the maneuvers and the main weapons systems does not exceed the parameters established by the Vienna Document of 2011, which does not oblige us to notify foreign partners about ongoing activities. Nevertheless, the Russian Ministry of Defense, as part of voluntary transparency, informed the military attaches of foreign statesting and joint teaching".

The Russian-Belarusian military exercises "Allied Resolve-2022" are held as part of the second stage of the test of the reaction forces of the Union State, carried out by decision of the presidents of Russia and Belarus.
