Over 30 ships of the Black Sea Fleet took part in large-scale exercises

Over 30 warships of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation went to large-scale exercises from Sevastopol and Novorossiysk, which are conducted under the leadership of the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Igor Osipov. This was stated in the information support department of the CFR, RIA Novosti reports.

As reported, the ships and units of the coastal troops of the fleet went to sea and to the training grounds during the initial stage of the exercises, which are part of the large-scale maneuvers of the Russian Navy.

“The purpose of the exercise is to defend the sea coast of the Crimean Peninsula, the bases of the forces (troops) of the Black Sea Fleet, as well as the objects of the economic sector of the country, maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity from possible military threats of a mock enemy,” the department said.

During the exercises, naval formations and units of coastal troops, fleet aviation will carry out a complex of missile and artillery firing, missile and bomb strikes against sea, coastal and air targets. The maneuvers involve frigates, patrol ships, small missile ships and missile boats, landing ships, small anti-submarine ships, as well as mine defense ships.

The exercises are carried out as part of preparations for naval maneuvers under the general supervision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.
