US sends additional destroyers to Europe to support NATO forces

The US Navy has sent four missile destroyers to European territorial waters to reinforce its position amid escalating tensions around Ukraine. This was stated by US Navy spokesman Arlo Abrahamson, RIA Novosti reports.

We are talking about the destroyers Donald Cook ("Donald Cook"), Mitscher ("Mitcher"), The Sullivans ("Sullivans") and Gonzalez ("Gonzales").

“While they are there, they will be involved in a number of maritime operations in support of the US 6th Fleet and our NATO allies,” Abrahamson said.

These destroyers are able to withstand sea forces, as well as enemy landings. Each of the ships can take on board up to 56 Tomahawk (Tomahawk) cruise missiles with a range of 1.6 thousand kilometers. In addition, the ships are equipped with the Aegis missile defense system (Aegis).

At the end of January, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO is strengthening its presence, including in the regions of the Baltic and Black Seas.

On the eve of the secretary general said that the alliance is exploring the possibility of deploying its troops in Romania in the Black Sea.
