The Foreign Ministry appreciated the words of the Permanent Representative of Ukraine on Russia's membership in the UN Security Council

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on the statement of the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Sergei Kislytsya, who doubted that Russia could be a member of the UN, calling his words absurd, TASS reports.

According to her, the ministry often commented on Kislitsa's statements, but his latest statements "generally raise the question of his adequacy and professional suitability."

Earlier, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Serhiy Kyslytsya, said that Russia has no right to sit either in the UN General Assembly, let alone in the Security Council. The representative of Ukraine stated that "I have not seen in my eyes a decision that someone, in principle, voted for Russia's membership either in the Security Council or in the UN General Assembly."

“Allegedly, as a country, we did not go through some kind of procedure that all new members entering the UN had to go through, that supposedly there are no documents. And there are a huge number of such absurd statements,” she said.

Russia took the place of the Soviet Union in the UN Security Council as the successor state of the USSR on December 24, 1991. Then Russian President Boris Yeltsin sent a letter of notification to the UN Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar about the continuation of membership in the UN and the preservation of all obligations and responsibilities within the UN for Russia. At the moment, since February 2022, Russia has been the chairman of the Security Council.
