Belarus threatened Lithuania with retaliatory measures aftermination of the transit of potassium

Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko announced Minsk's retaliatory measures after the cessation of the transit of Belarusian potassium through Lithuania. This is reported by the agency "Belta".

“Indeed, the Lithuanian side stopped accepting our trains, which transported potash to the port of Klaipeda for shipment. The response will be tough. We, as they say, will respond symmetrically. The decision has been made, it will affect the railway transport," BelTA quotes Golovchenko as saying.

The Prime Minister also stressed that the Belarusian side offered the Lithuanian colleagues to hold a dialogue on this issue.

“In our opinion, Lithuania, having made such a decision unilaterally, violated the intergovernmental agreement on railway communication, not to mention the documents that regulate transit issues for countries that do not have access to the sea. We offered an option. If they don’t answer us, we will introduce retaliatory measures in the coming days, ”the politician said.

According to Golovchenko, Lithuania is already suffering economic losses due to Belarus' retaliatory measures.

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, during a meeting with the Prime Minister of the country, instructed the government, if necessary, to implement retaliatory measures against Lithuania. According to him, if Lithuania does not want to let Belarusian cargo into the port, then this is their right, but Minsk is ready to take “retaliatory measures”.
