Russia - Russia will restrict the use of deepfakes

Russia (bbabo.net), - Vadim Gorelkin, Deputy Head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, announced the need to regulate the deepfake industry - substitution of a person's voice and appearance in commercials. According to Gorelkin, it is worth focusing on the Chinese experience in this matter.

"Deepfakes are already actively used by scammers - last fall, a video with a fake video message from Oleg Tinkov, which led to a phishing site, was circulating on social networks. There are cases when deepfakes were used for blackmail and when attackers used this technology to deceive an interlocutor during a video call. I do not exclude that in the future, deepfakes may also be aimed at a mass audience: to spread fake information or manipulate during election campaigns," Gorelkin said in his Telegram channel.

Earlier it became known that China has developed rules for regulating deepfakes. The bill, introduced by the Chinese Cyberspace Administration, would ban deepfakes that could harm public order, infringe on individual rights, spread false news, or illustrate sexual activity. Legal use of deepfakes is possible only if there is a special marking.

In Russia, deepfakes are actively used, including in advertising. In particular, the MegaFon company uses the appearance of actor Bruce Willis in advertising, and Sberbank released a commercial featuring actor Leonid Kuravlev's character "George Miloslavsky".
