Putin and Macron discussed security guarantees offered by Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone conversation with French leader Emmanuel Macron, pointed to the lack of a meaningful response from the United States and NATO to Russian security initiatives. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.

"Putin once again drew attention to the lack of a meaningful response from the United States and NATO to well-known Russian initiatives," the press service said.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, during which they discussed the reaction of the United States and the European Union to documents on security guarantees. According to the head of Russian diplomacy, Western countries are ignoring key provisions for Russia, primarily on the non-expansion of NATO and the non-deployment of strike weapons systems near Russian borders.

In mid-December last year, the Russian Foreign Ministry published security agreements for the US and NATO. They took into account the concerns of the parties, in particular on the situation in Ukraine. Russia's main conditions are that NATO will not move east and will deny Ukraine membership in the alliance.

The United States and NATO refused to sign the projects proposed by Russia, saying that they "cannot compromise."
