Lavrov held talks with the UN Secretary General

At the talks with UN Secretary General António Guterres, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov informed him in detail about Russia's ongoing negotiations with NATO and OSCE member countries on security guarantees via video link. Also at the talks, questions were raised about the situations in Syria, Libya and the Balkans. This is stated on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The report says that the Russian side exchanged views with the UN representative on a number of topical international issues: Syria, Libya, the activities of the UN Mission in Kosovo, Russia's chairmanship of the UN Security Council in February.

Lavrov pointed out to the Secretary General the problems that the Russian Permanent Mission of the United Nations in the United States faces due to the failure of the American side to fulfill its obligations.

The United States is not fulfilling its obligations under the World Organization's Headquarters Agreement regarding the return of the permanent mission's official premises blocked by the Americans, Lavrov said. He added that visas are also not being issued to employees and members of Russian delegations participating in the work of the General Assembly and its main committees.

Earlier it was reported that Vasily Nebenzya, Permanent Representative to the UN, spoke about the serious problems faced by the employees of the Russian mission. The US Embassy in Moscow has suspended all non-diplomatic, non-immigrant visa services since mid-May last year, leaving diplomats who need to leave the US for urgent reasons unable to return to work.
