Spanish police to lift minimum height requirements for employees

Small stature will no longer be a hindrance to joining the Spanish National Police. The Ministry of the Interior of the Iberian kingdom decided to cancel this requirement. According to the head of the department, Fernando Grande-Marlasca, this will allow many women who want to devote themselves to law enforcement to realize their dream.

According to the minister, so far the rules have been stricter in relation to women. For them, the limit was only two centimeters below the average height of the fair sex in Spain, while for men this difference reached nine centimeters. Only men with a height of more than 1.65 meters could enter the police service, for women this bar was set at 1.6 meters.

As Grande-Marlaska said, with the rule change, Spain will be on par with France, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Slovakia, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Ireland, the UK, Romania, Denmark and Germany, where admission to law enforcement agencies is not limited by requirements for growth. As expected, all the necessary documents will be prepared in the near future to consolidate the decision, and the next set will be evaluated according to other criteria.

As noted by the Spanish Interior Ministry, the minimum height requirements will be maintained for those who want to get into certain special forces, where physique plays a big role in their tasks.
