Serbian president dissolves parliament and calls early elections for April

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has dissolved the National Assembly (Parliament) of Serbia, Politika reports.

During his address to the nation, Vučić stated that on the basis of the Constitution of Serbia, the law "On the President of Serbia" and the law "On People's Deputies", at the suggestion of the government, he issued a decree to dissolve the National Assembly. The President also called the elections for April 3rd.

He called on citizens to take part in the upcoming elections, show the country's democratic capacity and show how important it is to adopt plans and programs for the future in a civilized manner, regardless of different opinions.

Earlier, the head of the Serbian government, Ivica Dacic, signed a decision on the election of councilors for the assemblies of cities and municipalities also on April 3.

In January, a referendum was held in Serbia to change the constitution. The referendum was held in connection with the requirements of the EU to Belgrade to reform justice. After the approval of the changes, Brussels promised to speed up the process of European integration.
