Slovakia accused Russia of undermining peace due to the decision of the State Duma on the DPR and LPR

Slovak President Zuzana Chaputova condemned the appeal of the State Duma to Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which deputies called on the head of state to consider recognizing the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR.

“The territorial integrity of Ukraine, including in the Donbass, is not something that the Russian parliament should dictate. Only Ukrainians can decide, and we can support. You can’t talk about peace, but take steps that undermine it,” the Slovak leader wrote on Twitter.

The appeal to Putin in the State Duma was adopted on February 15, supporting the project of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation by a majority of votes. According to the document, the deputies asked the President of Russia to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. As part of the voting, the project was supported by more than 350 deputies, and only 16 parliamentarians opposed it.

This decision has already been directly criticized in Ukraine, announcing that the recognition of the Donbass republics by Moscow will mark Russia's withdrawal from the Minsk agreements.

Earlier, the media reported that French President Emmanuel Macron asked Putin not to recognize the independence of the DPR and LPR.
