Will block any intrusion attempts. How the mining system Agriculture works

The latest engineering systems for remote mining (ISDM) "Agriculture" began to enter service with the Southern Military District (SMD). I figured out what the principle of the new system is and how "intelligent mines" will be able to distinguish friends from strangers. Agriculture was the first to receive a division of the 11th engineering brigade of the Southern Military District, now the military personnel have begun practicing combat missions. They will try out new ways to use remote mining systems as part of mobile barrier squads.

Earlier it was reported that "Agriculture" in 2022 will also receive the troops of the Central Military District (TsVO).

“The remote method of installing minefields has a number of advantages. In particular, it is distinguished by the speed of laying minefields, especially in hard-to-reach areas,” Bekhan Ozdoev, industrial director of the Rostec weapons complex, told reporters.

According to Rostec, the Zemledeliye engineering system consists of a combat vehicle on a cross-country chassis, a transport-loading vehicle, and transport-launch containers with engineering ammunition. The task of the system is to quickly create minefields in especially dangerous areas at a distance of 5 to 15 km.

It fires rocket projectiles that scatter mines at a given location. The system lays a minefield of any complexity, including those with ready-made passages for friendly troops. At the same time, "Agriculture" makes it possible to solve mining tasks in compliance with international agreements on the prohibition or restriction of the use of mines, booby-traps and other devices.

For the first time, "Agriculture" was demonstrated at the parade in 2020. The system developer is the SPLAV research and production association, which is part of the Rostec structure.

“The remote mining system is just beginning to enter the troops as part of the state defense order. This is a promising thing, since its use excludes the direct participation of personnel in laying mines, ”said Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, director of the Center for Analysis of the World Arms Trade (TsAMTO).

According to Konstantin Sivkov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences, “Agriculture” is a defensive system, it is needed in the Southern Military District, since “this system blocks any attempts by Ukrainian troops to invade Crimea.”

"Agriculture" works on the principle of multiple launch rocket systems, only its shells do not explode, but break into the ground. The system can use two types of mines - anti-personnel and anti-tank. The minefield laid by "Agriculture" can be turned on and off, it can be eliminated. You can block the enemy, you can protect your flanks,” explained the editor of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine, military expert Alexei Leonkov.

Korotchenko noted that the transfer of a mine into a combat state is carried out directly at the moment when the projectile delivers it to the installation site. Further, its contact sensors react to the movement of enemy infantry or armored vehicles - activation and undermining occur.

According to Leonkov, in the land version, this system appeared by analogy with the method of mining that was used in the fleet. “The principle of such mining was first used in the navy – anti-submarine aircraft could scatter mines to block sea ports or bases,” Leonkov said.

The mining area depends on the configuration of the system.

“A multiple launch rocket system can hit several thousand square meters, but here the logic is different - the area of the minefield depends on the accuracy of the mines that are knocked out - it is different against infantry and against armored vehicles. It depends on the terrain, and on the tactics of laying - you can make a solid field, stripes, chess," Leonkov added.

At the same time, the mines are equipped with self-liquidators - the minefield self-destructs after a certain predetermined time, "it does not need to be walked and cleared for many years, endangering the lives of civilians who may be on it," Sivkov added.

According to Korotchenko, now the engineering troops are working on a number of other intellectual developments. For example, "smart mines" that can be activated and deactivated according to the "friend or foe" principle. In the future, "Agriculture" will be equipped with such mines.

“The bottom line is that every soldier of the Russian army who needs to walk through the minefield will receive a sensor that gives the field information that it is his own - the mines are deactivated. When the fighters cross it, the mines will be activated again,” Korotchenko said.
