The orientalist shared his opinion in response to the post of the first deputy of the muftiate Damir Mukhetdinov, who expressed disagreement with the fact that the only representative of the clergy in the Olympic delegation of the Russian Federation in Beijing was Archpriest Andrei Alekseev, a servant of the Russian Orthodox Church.

“The confessor of the Olympic team sounds exactly the same as the “main temple of the Armed Forces” and the “deputy group for the protection of Christian values,” Mukhetdinov wrote, seeing this as an “ambiguity” regarding the principle of freedom of conscience.

As reported on the website of the IRP, “Ignatenko addressed Mukhetdinov with a counter question: what exactly did he and his organization do in advance so that the clergy of Russian Islam were at the Olympics? After all, the ministry of priest Andrei Alekseev has long been known - he was still at the Olympics in Tokyo last year.

Anton Ignatenko expressed gratitude to Archpriest Andrei Alekseev, who is in Beijing as the confessor of the Russian Olympic team, for the moral support of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva.

Earlier, Alekseev said that he had a “fatherly” conversation with the girl.
