Putin spoke about the budget policy of Russia after the COVID-19 pandemic

Russia normalized its fiscal policy after the pandemic, executing the 2021 budget with a surplus. The meeting is broadcast by Russia 24.

“Last year, the federal budget was executed with a surplus of 0.4% of GDP. Let me remind you that a year earlier we had a deficit of 3.8%. The volume of non-oil and gas revenues at the end of last year amounted to 16.2 trillion rubles, while revenues in the fourth quarter exceeded the government’s forecast, presented along with the budget law, by more than 20%,” the president said.

He noted that such a positive trend continues this year: in January, non-oil and gas budget revenues were 27% higher than a year earlier. He stressed that a stable income base allows not only to solve current problems, reach the established budget parameters, but is also ready to launch additional measures to develop the economy and infrastructure, and support Russian families.

Putin stressed that the Russian economy showed a good result last year, offsetting the decline in 2020 and exceeded the pre-crisis level. Thus, GDP grew by 4.6%, the head of state noted.

At the same time, the president paid special attention to rising inflation. In Russia, there is an increase in consumer prices: in January, growth amounted to 8.7% in annual terms, higher than expected. The trend is noticeable in the economies of developed countries, Putin said. For example, in the US inflation was 7.5%.

Earlier, experts spoke about the growth of the Russian economy in 2022.
