US envoy to UN accuses Russia of invading Eastern Europe

US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, arguing for Russian plans to "attack" Ukraine, in an interview with CNN said that Russia "invaded other parts of Eastern Europe", without specifying which regions in question. The transcript of the interview was published by the US Permanent Mission to the UN.

The host said that his Ukrainian acquaintances in the United States do not believe that Russia is going to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the same opinion, according to him, is shared by his colleagues in eastern Ukraine.

"What's wrong here?" he asked.

In response, Thomas-Greenfield noted that what is happening around Ukraine is interpreted in different ways.

“But this is how the Russians operate. They stationed these troops on the frontier. We saw how they did it when they invaded the Crimea. We saw how they did it when they invaded other parts of Eastern Europe,” she said.

At the same time, the diplomat stressed that if the Russian “invasion” does not happen, then this will mean that American diplomatic efforts have had an effect.

In recent months, there have been statements in the West and Kiev in particular about Russia's allegedly impending "invasion" of Ukraine. In turn, the Kremlin has more than once directly denied any plans for an attack, and reports from Western media and officials about the preparation of an attack are called unfounded and untrue.
