White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken agreed to a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on February 23 if Russia does not invade Ukraine. She announced this at a briefing, TASS reports.

“He accepted the invitation and will meet with his Russian partner on Wednesday, unless, of course, they launch an invasion,” she said.

Earlier, Blinken, during a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, said that there were still opportunities to resolve the crisis around Ukraine.

Lavrov, in a conversation with Blinken, noted the inadmissibility of aggressive rhetoric. The minister also stressed the need to continue joint work, which the presidents of Russia and the United States had previously agreed on.

Prior to this, the last time Lavrov and Blinken communicated on February 12. Then the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry told the Secretary of State that the Western information campaign against Russia could eventually lead to a war in the Donbass. In addition, Lavrov pointed out that the United States did not agree to implement the key provisions of the security guarantees offered by Russia.
