NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urged Russia to withdraw troops from the border with Ukraine, TASS reports.

“We call on Russia to withdraw its forces from the borders of Ukraine. This should be an important first step towards a peaceful resolution [of the crisis],” he said, speaking at the Munich Security Conference.

Earlier it was reported that the echelon with tanks and other armored vehicles of the Western Military District (ZVO) went to the permanent base after the completion of the exercises near the border with Ukraine.

At the same time, German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht said that the "withdrawal of troops", for which NATO takes the return of Russian units from the exercises, is not a reason to "end the alarm."

Also, the media reported that NATO is raising the level of readiness of thousands of soldiers because of the crisis with Russia.
