British Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Barbara Woodward during a meeting of the UN Security Council said that Russia's decisions on the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics will have harsh and far-reaching consequences. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“The actions that Russia has taken today will have severe and far-reaching consequences,” Woodward said.

She stressed that this situation will affect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and international law.

Earlier, US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that Russian President Vladimir Putin "teared to shreds" the Minsk agreements by signing a decree recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

The decree recognizing independence was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, February 21. The heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik addressed the corresponding request. An agreement on friendship and mutual assistance was also signed between Russia, the DPR and the LPR.
