German authorities will prepare a new report on Nord Stream 2

The German government will prepare a new report on Nord Stream 2 for the German regulator, namely the German federal network agency, within a few months. It will be developed to replace the old version of this document, withdrawn after Russia recognized the independence of the DPR and LPR. It is reported by TASS.

A new report will be prepared as required by existing legal procedures. Further actions will depend on the development of the situation around Ukraine, Minister of Economics F Robert Habek said on Wednesday on the air of the Deutschlandfunk radio station.

The old, withdrawn version of the report stated that Nord Stream 2 did not threaten Germany's security.

The old version of the German government report for the German regulator, prepared as part of the Nord Stream 2 certification process, was withdrawn as part of Berlin's reaction to the recognition of the DPR and LPR. Which, in essence, means the suspension of certification.

Vice-Chancellor F. Robert Habek said on the air of the Deutschlandfunk radio station that Germany, in theory, could refuse to supply gas from Russia in the future, but now it is far from it.

On January 20, 2022, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at a press conference with German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said that Nord Stream 2 remains a lever of influence on Russia for the United States, Germany and their allies.
