Muslim first member of Israel's Supreme Court

For the first time in history, a Muslim has entered the Supreme Court of Israel.

Khaled Kaboub has become the first Muslim judge with a permanent seat on the Israeli Supreme Court, according to bbabo.net citing the Daily Sabah.

Kaboub, 63, previously sat on the Tel Aviv District Court and is now one of four new judges appointed by a special committee. The Jaffa native studied history and Islamic studies at Tel Aviv University before graduating with a law degree there and worked as a lawyer in private practice for many years before becoming a judge.

It is worth noting that the only Muslim who, before Khaled Kaboub, was a member of the Supreme Court was Abdel Rahman Zuabi, but his appointment was temporary - he held the judicial post for exactly one year, in 1999.
