Deputy Chairman of the European Commission, European Commissioner for Transparency Vera Yurova considers it wrong to exclude Russian President Vladimir Putin from the new list of EU anti-Russian sanctions, Hospodarske Noviny reports.

“Vladimir Putin should be first on the list [of EU sanctions against Russia — ed.],” Yurova said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. In the West, these actions were regarded as a violation of international law, and a number of countries imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation.

London imposes sanctions against five Russian banks and businessmen - brothers Boris and Igor Rotenberg and Gennady Timchenko. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the first round of economic sanctions against Russia. US President Joe Biden also announced the introduction of new sanctions.
