State of emergency declared in Lithuania

The Lithuanian Parliament declared a state of emergency in the country by approving a decree by President Gitanas Nausėda. It is reported by TASS.

The corresponding decision was made at an extraordinary session of the Legislative Assembly of Lithuania. The regime was introduced "in connection with the actions" of Russia, which "threaten the paramount interests of Lithuania's national security, reliable control and protection of the state border."

The regime will be valid until March 10. According to Lithuanian law, such a regime is introduced for no longer than a month, after which the Seimas must consider this decision again.

The main restrictions of the declared state of emergency affect the border zone, where searches of vehicles and luggage of individuals can be used to detect weapons, explosives, radioactive, poisonous and other dangerous materials.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada approved the decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on the introduction of a state of emergency in Ukraine from February 24 for a month.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the citizens of Russia and Ukraine. He stated that he had decided to conduct a military special operation to protect the Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR. The Russian leader said that the actions of the Russian Federation are self-defense against the threats created for the country, and Russia cannot simply watch what is happening.
