Dariga Nazarbayeva decided to resign as a deputy of the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan

The former chairman of the Senate of the Parliament decided to resign as a deputy of the Majilis (lower house) of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Nazarbayeva has been a member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the 7th convocation and a member of the Committee on Economic Reform and Regional Development since January 15, 2021.

“Today I have decided to step down as a member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament and fully focus on social, humanitarian, cultural and charitable activities,” she said in a statement.

At the moment, Dariga Nazarbayeva is engaged in social activities, heads the Nursultan Nazarbayev Foundation, and is also the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the women's forces association "Alliance of Women's Forces of Kazakhstan".

As noted on the personal page of the deputy on the website of the parliament, Dariga Nazarbayeva prepared amendments to 39 draft laws during the year of her work. A total of 297 amendments to the considered bills were proposed, 163 of which were adopted, and 43 amendments are in the process. The amendments are aimed at ensuring socio-economic growth, increasing the investment attractiveness of the state, protecting small and medium-sized businesses, developing industry and trade policy of Kazakhstan. During her work, Nazarbayeva also sent 25 letters to the government of Kazakhstan with inquiries on public policy issues.

During her career, Dariga Nazarbayeva was a member of the Mazhilis 3 times. The first in 2004 on the list of the republican party "Asar". Nazarbayeva dealt with issues of socio-economic development, headed the committee for socio-cultural development, was the head of the party faction in the Majilis. In 2015-2016, she worked as Deputy Prime Minister, also in this position she oversaw the social block.

In 2016, Nazarbayeva moved to work in the upper house of parliament, where she dealt with issues of international relations, defense and security, chairing the relevant committee. Three years later, she became chairman of the Senate of Parliament, and then resigned in 2020.
