Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro sharply refuted the statements of his deputy, Vice President António Hamilton Mourão, on the situation in Ukraine, according to the politician's Instagram.

“I want to be clear: Article 84 [of the Brazilian Constitution] says that the president speaks about these issues, and the president is called Jair Messias Bolsonaro, period. With all due respect to the person who said this, and I saw the recording, he says what he should not, this is not his competence, this is our competence, ”said Bolsonaro.

António Hamilton Mourau had previously sharply criticized Russia's military operation. Bolsonaro himself said that before commenting on the situation, he would consult with the head of the Brazilian Foreign and Defense Ministry.

“We are for peace, we want peace, we traveled to Russia in peace, we established exceptional contact with President Putin and resolved the issue of fertilizers for Brazil,” Bolsonaro recalled.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron explained his call to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
